When to Go

Bitola sits at about 600 metres elevation in the Pelagonia valley, which gives it a continental climate with hot summers and cold, sometimes snowy winters. The city is pleasant in spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when temperatures are mild and the outdoor cafe life is at its best.

Summer (June–August) is warm to hot, with daytime temperatures often reaching 35°C, but the elevation keeps nights cooler than in the coastal lowlands. The outdoor life of Širok Sokak reaches its peak in summer evenings.

Winter brings reliable snowfall and temperatures that regularly drop below freezing. The mountains above Bitola (Pelister National Park) have skiing within day-trip distance.

The Bitola International Film Camera Festival (MANAKI Brothers) takes place in late September and draws international film photographers and industry figures — a significant cultural event for a city this size.
