Chisinau's Jewish Cemetery is still in use, but its older sections are the reason to visit. The cemetery preserves the memory of a city where Jewish residents once formed a large share of the population, with graves ranging from recent burials to much older stones.
The site also includes traces of a destroyed synagogue, making it one of the more tangible places to understand Jewish Chisinau. Go respectfully and expect uneven paths and a quiet, sometimes neglected atmosphere rather than a polished memorial park.
