Chisinau's sights are concentrated within a short walk of the Triumphal Arch and Nativity Cathedral at the city's centre. Add Stephen the Great Park, two of the country's main museums, and the Soviet-era central market, and you have a satisfying full day. The city rewards slow walking — chestnut-lined boulevards, brutalist apartment blocks, restored 19th-century churches — more than it does ticking off a sight list. The most worthwhile excursions, including Orheiul Vechi and the underground wineries, are listed under Day Trips.
