Stadshart

Stadshart Amstelveen is the town's pedestrianised shopping centre — a covered and open-air mix of around 200 shops, cafés, and restaurants designed by Hans Ruijssenaars and opened in 1994. It is one of the largest open-air shopping centres in the Netherlands and pulls in shoppers from across the Amsterdam region.

The mix is mid- to upper-range: Dutch department stores, fashion chains, a large food hall, and a notable cluster of Japanese restaurants and supermarkets serving the local expat community. The complex also houses the public library, the Cobra Museum, and the Schouwburg theatre.
