De Vlijt (Windmill)

De Vlijt is an 18th-century smock mill on the edge of Diever, one of the few surviving windmills in the Westerveld municipality. The mill is maintained by a volunteer miller association and operates on wind days. When the sails are turning, the mill is typically open for visitors to see the grinding mechanism and learn about the mill's history.

Windmills in Drenthe were less common than in the western Netherlands — the province had more water mills on its small streams — but De Vlijt has been a landmark on the flat Drenthe landscape since the 18th century. The mill is visible from several kilometres on clear days. It stands on Molen Day (National Mill Day, second weekend of May) when mills across the Netherlands open to the public.
