Dedicated to Jan Amos Comenius, the Moravian bishop and philosopher who is sometimes called the father of modern education. His ideas — that education should be universal, systematic, and adapted to the child's natural development — were radical in the 1650s and sound remarkably contemporary now. The museum covers his life, his major works including the Orbis Sensualium Pictus (one of the first illustrated children's textbooks), and his influence on European thought. Small but well put together.

A story
Jan Amos Comenius, the 17th-century Czech philosopher and educator, spent the last years of his life in the Netherlands. He is buried in the Walloon Church in Naarden — the mausoleum attached to this museum holds his remains, making Naarden an unlikely pilgrimage site for educators from across the world.
