The Grote Markt is the heart of Oss, a broad market square lined with cafes and flanked by the town hall. It is a pleasant enough space by day — busy on market days, quieter on weekdays — and the main focus of street life in the evenings.
On Saturdays a general market fills the square with stalls selling produce, cheese, clothing, and the usual assortment of Dutch market goods. During Carnival, in the days before Ash Wednesday, the Grote Markt becomes the epicentre of one of Noord-Brabant's more enthusiastic street parties — Oss takes its Carnival seriously, with floats, costumes, and music spilling into the surrounding streets.
