Witte de Withstraat

Rotterdam's arts and nightlife strip — galleries, bars, and restaurants

Rotterdam's most culturally active street, running from the Museumpark to the Nieuwe Binnenweg. Galleries, independent restaurants, design studios, and bars occupy the ground floors of the post-war apartment blocks on either side. On a Friday evening the street fills up and several of the galleries stay open late.

The street takes its name from Jan de With, a Dutch admiral, and the whole area has the feel of a grown-up arts district — not trendy for the sake of it, but with real substance in the galleries and restaurants. The adjacent Museumpark puts Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Kunsthal, and the Naturalis building all within a five-minute walk.
