Formerum aan Zee is the village beach access point, about two kilometres north of the village through the forest and dunes. A wooden walkway crosses the last stretch of dune and drops you onto a wide, almost empty stretch of North Sea beach — Terschelling's northern coast is essentially one continuous 30-km strand, and the Formerum section is among the quietest.
There is a single beach pavilion (in summer only) and a horse-riding stable about halfway along the path from the village. The walk takes 25 minutes from the centre of Formerum; by bike, ten minutes on the dedicated cycle path. Bring a windbreak — the wind off the North Sea is rarely gentle.
