The beach on the north side of the island directly above Midsland is one of the wilder stretches of Terschelling's coast — there is no beach club, no parking lot right behind the dunes, and the cycling path from the village keeps it just far enough away to thin the crowds. A ten-minute ride from the village brings you to the beach access through the dunes.
In summer the water is cold by Mediterranean standards but very swimmable. In autumn and winter the beach becomes a magnificent empty place, scoured by North Sea winds, and the Wadden Sea mudflats on the south side of the island fill with wading birds. Both are worth experiencing.
