Oudheidkamer

The Oudheidkamer ("Antiquities Room") is the local history museum of Texel, housed in a slightly leaning gable-fronted building from 1599 that began life as a brewery and guest house. The collection covers daily life on Texel from the seventeenth century to the early twentieth: traditional costumes, painted furniture, navigation instruments, and the regalia of the local sheepfarming families that have shaped the island for centuries.

The building itself is half the appeal — small rooms, low beams, a courtyard garden with herbs grown for old island recipes. Open from spring to autumn, Tuesday to Saturday, with shorter hours in winter; small admission fee. Allow about an hour.
