Utrecht Centraal is the busiest railway junction in the Netherlands — virtually every main line passes through here, which means getting to Utrecht from anywhere in the country is straightforward. Amsterdam is 30 minutes by Intercity, The Hague around 40 minutes, Rotterdam 40 minutes, and Schiphol Airport around 35 minutes on the direct train. From Germany, the Intercity Express (ICE) connects Utrecht to Cologne and Frankfurt.
There is no airport in Utrecht. International travellers fly into Schiphol (Amsterdam) or, for budget carriers, Rotterdam The Hague Airport.
By car, Utrecht sits at the junction of the A2 (Amsterdam–Eindhoven) and A12 (The Hague–Germany). Parking in the city centre is expensive and scarce — use one of the P+R facilities on the edge of the city and take the bus in.
