Nieuwe Kerk

Zierikzee's Nieuwe Kerk is a neoclassical church built between 1835 and 1848 after the earlier Sint-Lievensmonsterkerk was destroyed by fire. Its clean, sober form is a sharp contrast to the massive medieval tower nearby.

The church is most interesting as part of a short walk through the old centre, linking the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren, the Stadhuismuseum, and the harbour gates. It helps show how Zierikzee rebuilt and reused its historic core rather than freezing it in one period.
