The Bodø waterfront runs along the northern edge of the city centre, centred on the ferry terminal and the Sjøgata quayside. This is the working face of the city: Lofoten ferries berth here, fishing boats unload, and the Hurtigruten coastal steamer calls in twice a day (northbound and southbound). On a summer evening the quayside fills with people eating takeaway fish and watching the boat traffic.
The most interesting stretch runs from the ferry terminal west toward the Glasshuset shopping centre and along Storgata. Several good fish shacks and a seafood market operate near the terminal. The waterfront also gives the clearest view of the Lofoten Wall on clear days — the mountain chain appears to float above the horizon, startlingly close-looking despite being 60 km offshore. At midnight in June or July, with the sun still above the water, it is one of the better free views in northern Norway.
