The city centre is compact and easy to walk. Most things you want to see — the waterfront, Nordland Museum, Bodø Cathedral, the main shopping street — are within 15 minutes on foot from the train station or ferry terminal.
Bus: Nordland county runs a local bus network covering the city and the Bodøhalvøya peninsula. The main terminal is central. Buses are reliable but infrequent outside peak hours; check Reis Nordland for schedules.
Cycling: Bodø has reasonable cycling infrastructure, with dedicated lanes on the main routes and a bike share scheme (Bysykkel). The peninsula roads east toward Bodin Church and the Keiservarden trailhead are manageable on a standard bike. Trails in Løpsmarka are accessible by bike to the start, then on foot.
Car rental: If you plan to visit Saltstraumen, Mjelle, or day-trip into Nordland without public transport, a rental car is practical. All major rental companies have desks at the airport. Norwegian roads are good and generally clear of ice from May to October, though the mountain passes on the E6 south of Bodø can be challenging in winter.
Taxi: Taxis are available from the airport and the station and can be booked by phone or app. Norwegian taxis are expensive; the short distance from airport to centre keeps the cost tolerable, but longer trips add up.
