Løpsmarka

Løpsmarka is the quieter alternative to Keiservarden, a forested upland area on the eastern side of the Ronvikfjellet ridge. Where Keiservarden draws large crowds in summer, Løpsmarka rarely gets busy — the trails are less well publicised and the terrain is more varied, mixing birch forest with open moorland and small lakes. The views are comparable on the ridge sections.

Several loop routes run through the area, with the most popular starting near Rønvik and taking two to three hours. The terrain is gentler than Keiservarden's final approach, making it a better option for families or anyone who wants a longer walk without technical difficulty. In winter the trails are used for cross-country skiing; in summer the moorland flowers are good and the birdlife active. Bring a map — the signage is not as comprehensive as on the more popular routes.
