The most scenic approach is via the Bergen–Oslo railway, which stops at Myrdal. From Myrdal, the Flåmsbana drops 20 km down to Flåm in about an hour. The Bergen–Oslo route is one of the great train journeys of Europe in its own right; Myrdal sits at altitude and can be snow-covered even in July.
From Bergen, a high-speed express boat also connects directly to Flåm in about 5 hours, passing through the fjord system. Flåm is connected by bus to Aurland and to Gudvangen via the Stegastein road, and from Aurland there is a seasonal bus over the Aurlandsfjellet Snow Road to Lærdal. The village is otherwise road-accessible year-round via the Flåm valley from the main Sognefjord road.
