A long narrow lake stretching east from Førde into the mountain landscape of inner Sunnfjord. The road along its southern shore follows a valley flanked by steep wooded hillsides, giving an easy drive through classic western Norwegian scenery without needing to venture far from town.
The lake is good for fishing — primarily trout — and in summer kayaks can be rented in the area. At the eastern end of the lake, the Astruptunet farm was the home of painter Nikolai Astrup, one of Norway's best-known artists, whose expressionist landscapes of this exact valley are now collected internationally. The farmhouse and studio are open to visitors in summer.
