Geilo's main alpine ski area is split across two sides of the valley — Geilolia and Slaatta — with a shared lift ticket and a free shuttle bus running between them. The combined area has around 40 pistes served by 20 lifts; the longest run drops about 400 vertical metres. The terrain is mostly intermediate and family-friendly, with some easy black runs but nothing extreme.
The reliable snow (November to April, with extensive snowmaking) and the proximity to Oslo make Geilo one of the most popular family ski resorts in Norway. Lift tickets are not cheap by international standards. The day ski tickets at the smaller Havsdalen and Vestlia areas may be of interest for variety.
