By train is the natural way to reach Geilo. The Bergen Railway (Bergensbanen) stops here several times a day, with trains from Oslo (3 1/2 hours) and Bergen (4 hours). Tickets are cheaper when booked ahead. The station is in the middle of the village; most accommodations are within walking distance.
By car, Geilo is about 240 km west of Oslo on the E16 and Route 7 — a 3 1/2-hour drive in good conditions, longer if the mountain passes are slow. The route from Bergen via the Hardanger fjord is one of the most scenic drives in Norway but takes around 5 hours.
By air, the nearest international airports are Oslo (OSL) and Bergen (BGO), both with direct trains to Geilo. There is no airport at Geilo itself.
