Geilo is a year-round mountain village: alpine and cross-country skiing in winter, hiking and cycling on the Hardangervidda plateau in summer, and the Bergen Railway providing a constant slow flow of train traffic to watch from the platform of the station that anchors the village. Beyond the slopes and the trail network, the village hosts an internationally regarded ice-music festival each winter and a couple of architecturally striking modern buildings.
