A red octagonal wooden church built in 1735, Dolstad is the oldest cruciform church in northern Norway and one of the most striking ecclesiastical buildings in the region. Its architect, Nils Pedersen Bech, gave it a compact octagonal plan that was unusual for its time. The interior is richly furnished. The church sits alongside the Vefsn Museum's rural folk collections — visit both together.

A story
The church was consecrated on 7 August 1735 by local dean Anders Dass — son of the celebrated Norwegian poet and priest Petter Dass. The Dass family's connection to Helgeland runs deep: Petter Dass wrote much of his poetry in this corner of northern Norway, and his son's role at this dedication marks a quiet moment of literary lineage.
