About 30 km south of Mosjøen on the E6, the Vefsna river drops 17 metres over a wide basalt ledge at Laksforsen. The volume of water — up to 700 cubic metres per second at peak snowmelt — makes it one of the most powerful waterfalls in Norway, and the spray and noise at close range are impressive. Atlantic salmon navigate the falls in summer, which gives the place its name (Laksforsen means Salmon Falls). There is a viewing platform and easy access from the road. Stop here on the way south or north — it takes twenty minutes and is worth it.
