Mosjøen Station opened in 1940 when the Nordland Railway reached the town from the south, and the modest wooden station building has been in use ever since. Trains run twice a day in each direction between Trondheim and Bodø, and the overnight service is one of the better ways to enter or leave town: you wake up to the fjord and the mountains.
The walk from the station down to Sjøgata takes about ten minutes, past 19th-century timber houses and the old market square. For travellers without a car, this is the gateway to Helgeland — and a pleasant building in its own right, with a low-slung gabled roof and the unfussy charm of small Norwegian railway architecture.
