The main museum building is Jacobsenbrygga, a yellow wharf house at Sjøgata 31B built in 1862 by merchant Jacob C. Jacobsen — in its day the grandest mercantile building in town. Restoration began in 1981 and the building reopened as a cultural centre in 1984. The Vefsn Museum spreads across several locations in and around Mosjøen, with exhibitions covering rural life, urban history, and Norwegian resistance activity during the Second World War occupation. It is both a good introduction to local history and a handsome building to spend an hour in.
