Huset — "The House" — is Longyearbyen's finest restaurant and has been for decades. Housed in a building that has served the mining community since the 1950s, it now offers a seasonal Nordic menu built around Arctic ingredients: Svalbard reindeer, king crab from the Barents Sea, Arctic char, and locally foraged plants where the brief growing season allows. The wine cellar is one of the best-stocked in the Norwegian Arctic.
This is a proper dinner destination, not a casual meal. Booking well in advance is essential in peak season. The atmosphere mixes mining-era heritage with genuinely good cooking — an unlikely combination that works.
