A compact museum dedicated to the long history of attempts to reach the North Pole by air and sea, with Longyearbyen as the base of operations for many of them. Roald Amundsen, Umberto Nobile, and Lincoln Ellsworth all launched their polar expeditions from Svalbard, and the museum documents the Norge and Italia dirigible flights of the 1920s alongside later expeditions. The original Norge gondola fittings and expedition equipment are among the highlights.
