The world's northernmost brewery makes the most of its location — the Isbjørn (Polar Bear) IPA, the Midnight Sun Pale Ale, and the seasonal Dark Season Porter are all named for the Svalbard experience. Brewing here requires importing everything except the water, which is glacial meltwater from the surrounding mountains. The brewery runs tours and has a tap room where you can drink a beer with a view of the mountains at 78 degrees north.
Pick up bottles to take home — Svalbard's tax-free status makes alcohol much cheaper here than on the Norwegian mainland, though the range at the local Vinmonopolet (the state alcohol shop) is naturally limited.
