Bochnia is, fundamentally, a town with one extraordinary sight — the medieval salt mine that runs deep beneath the streets. A full visit takes half a day. The compact old town above ground is a pleasant walking grid centred on the rynek, with a basilica, a small museum and a sprinkling of restaurants. Most visitors come from Kraków, take the salt mine tour, eat lunch on the square and leave the same afternoon; staying overnight is rewarded by very quiet evenings and a real sense of provincial Małopolska.
