Beaches

Łeba's beaches are the broad, clean, Blue Flag variety that made the town a Polish summer institution. The sand is fine and pale, the sea is shallow enough for confident swimming, and the beach stretches for kilometres in both directions — west toward Słowiński National Park and east toward quieter stretches away from the resort centre.

In July and August the beaches fill with Polish families and the town swells from a few thousand residents to tens of thousands of visitors. The beach infrastructure is correspondingly complete: sun loungers, beach volleyball nets, waterslide parks, and the usual run of Baltic resort entertainments. Outside peak season — May, June, and September — the beach is nearly empty and dramatically more appealing, the sea cold but swimmable on good days, the dunes quiet and windblown. October through April, Łeba is a different place entirely: quiet, melancholy, the restaurants shuttered, the sea hammering a deserted shore.
