Lake Łebsko

Lake Łebsko is the largest lake in Pomerania and one of the largest in Poland — a shallow coastal lagoon covering about 71 square kilometres, separated from the Baltic by a narrow strip of sand that the Łącka Dune is slowly crossing. The lake is within Słowiński National Park and is an important habitat for migrating birds; white-tailed eagles nest here year-round.

The lake can be seen from the trail between Łeba and the moving dunes, where it stretches out to the south — calm and grey in cool weather, shimmering in sun. Kayaks and small boats can be rented to explore the southern shore, where reeds and wetlands shelter an abundance of waterfowl. In winter, the lake sometimes freezes enough to walk on, and it becomes a hauntingly quiet landscape of ice and reed-beds under a Baltic sky.
