Central Museum of Textiles

The Central Museum of Textiles occupies the White Factory (Biała Fabryka), a handsome Neo-Classical industrial building from the 1830s that is one of the oldest factory buildings in Łódź. The collection covers the history of the textile industry from traditional hand-weaving through the industrial revolution that transformed this city, with working looms demonstrating old techniques.

The building alone is worth the visit — it predates the red-brick industrial style that dominates most of the city and looks almost graceful by comparison. The museum also hosts a Triennial of Tapestry, an international contemporary textile art exhibition that attracts weavers from around the world.
