Olsztyn Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory

Planetarium in a converted water tower honouring Copernicus

A fitting institution for the city where Copernicus did his work, the Olsztyn Planetarium opened in 1973 in the 500th year after his birth. The dome screens narrated shows on astronomy, the night sky, and the history of cosmology. The neighbouring Astronomical Observatory, in a converted nineteenth-century water tower, offers daytime tours of the telescopes and historic instruments.

Programmes are mostly in Polish but the visual content carries non-speakers through. It is a 10-minute walk east of the old town.
