Oswiecim is visited almost entirely for the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum — the two-part concentration and extermination camp complex that is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited historical site in Poland. Beyond the camp complex, the town itself has a small Jewish heritage trail that documents Oswiecim's pre-war Jewish community, which made up around half the town's population before the war.
