At the lower end of Monte Cassino Street, where it meets the square near the pier, stands the Krzywy Domek — the Crooked House. Built in 2004 and designed to look as if it has been folded, melted, or caught mid-warp, the building contains restaurants, shops, and a radio station. The roof curves, the walls bulge, and the windows are shaped like drops.
It's a piece of deliberate architectural whimsy, and it works surprisingly well in context — the surrounding buildings along Monte Cassino Street are substantial turn-of-the-century structures, and the Crooked House's deformations feel theatrical rather than just strange. Whether you love it or find it excessive, it's impossible to walk past without stopping to look.
