Śródmieście Południowe

South Downtown — Palace of Culture, Nowy Świat, and the bar and restaurant grid around Zbawiciela Square

Śródmieście Południowe is the southern half of Warsaw's city centre, running from Aleje Jerozolimskie down to Łazienki Park. It has two distinct characters: the broad commercial axis along Nowy Świat and the dense residential grid to the west, where the streets around Zbawiciela Square and Mokotowska constitute Warsaw's most concentrated bar, restaurant, and independent shop scene.

The Palace of Culture and Science dominates the northern edge — a Stalinist gift from the Soviet Union that remains Warsaw's tallest building and most contested landmark. The Museum of Modern Art now stands beside it on Plac Defilad. Further south, the neighbourhood loosens into embassy terraces, tree-lined streets, and a café culture that feels closer to Berlin or Amsterdam than to anything in central-eastern Europe.
