The main gateway to Zakopane is Kraków. From Kraków John Paul II International Airport, the fastest route is to take the train to Kraków Główny station (about 20 minutes), then a PKS or private bus to Zakopane — the journey from Kraków takes 2–3 hours depending on traffic and snow. Buses run every 30–60 minutes and cost around 20 PLN. The bus station in Zakopane is in the town centre, about 10 minutes' walk from Krupówki Street.
There is no direct rail connection to Zakopane — the town's railway line was closed, so buses are the only public option. Shared minibus taxis from Kraków main station take about 2 hours and can be booked online; they typically drop passengers directly at accommodation.
From Warsaw, the journey by car or bus is about 4–5 hours. Driving is straightforward in summer; in winter, winter tyres and patience for traffic congestion into town are both required. The road into Zakopane (road 47 from Nowy Targ) is the main bottleneck.
