Krupówki Street

Zakopane's main pedestrian street — the social heart of the town

Krupówki is the kilometre-long pedestrian street that runs through the centre of Zakopane, and it is where everyone ends up sooner or later. Lined with restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and cheese vendors, it is animated at all hours during the tourist season and has been the town's main promenade since the early 20th century.

The street is unashamedly commercial, but the mix is better than many mountain resort centres. Scattered among the souvenir stalls are genuinely good food options (the oscypek grilled cheese stalls at the top of the street are worth stopping for), architecture in the Zakopane Style, and a lively street atmosphere. The funicular to Gubałówka departs from the upper end of the street. At the lower end, the street opens into a small square with the main bus and taxi stands.
