The moliceiro is the traditional flat-bottomed boat that once harvested algae from the lagoon — the seaweed was used as fertiliser. Today they carry tourists along the central canal in a slow loop past the tiled facades and arched bridges. The painted prow panels are a local folk art tradition, typically featuring cheeky scenes with religious or ribald themes. Rides depart from the canal near the market and last about 45 minutes.
