The town centre and beach are entirely walkable. A bicycle is the ideal way to cover more ground — the promenade is flat and the road north to Buarcos is easy cycling. Local buses run to Buarcos and along the northern coast.
A car is useful for exploring the Mondego estuary, the Serra da Boa Viagem (the forested hills immediately north), and villages inland.
