Things to Do

Figueira da Foz is a proper Portuguese seaside town — not a resort built for foreigners, but a place where Portuguese families have been coming every summer for generations. The wide Atlantic beach is the reason people come: kilometres of pale sand backed by a promenade, with the Casino Figueira anchoring the scene. The beach at Buarcos to the north draws surfers after the bigger Atlantic swells.

Off-season the pace is genuinely relaxed. The crowds disappear, the prices drop, and the town returns to itself: a pleasant place to walk the waterfront, eat well, and watch the Mondego meet the sea.
