The highest point of the city, at 613 metres, with a panoramic view back over the rooftops, the historic centre, and the Minho countryside. You can drive up or — much more fun — take the Guimarães Cable Car, a six-minute gondola ride that climbs straight up the wooded slope.
At the top there is the Art Deco Penha Sanctuary, walking trails through pine and chestnut woods, a hotel, a few cafés, and a number of bizarre concrete pavilions left over from the Estado Novo era. It is the place locals come to walk on Sunday afternoons.
