A small protected landscape about 4 km west of town, where seasonal lagoons form along the Lima floodplain and attract impressive numbers of migratory birds in autumn and winter. The reserve covers a few hundred hectares of wetland, gallery forest, and meadow — unusual terrain in a region otherwise dominated by vineyards and pasture.
Footpaths run through the reserve and an interpretation centre explains the ecology. Herons, egrets, and wading birds concentrate here when the lagoons are full. It makes for a pleasant half-day walk from Ponte de Lima, following the riverbank west and returning on the opposite bank.
