Arad is in western Romania, close to the Hungarian border, and well connected to both countries.
Train: Regular trains connect Arad to Timișoara (about 1.5 hours), Cluj-Napoca (3–4 hours), Bucharest (7–8 hours), and Budapest (3.5 hours). Arad Central station is a handsome 19th-century building near the city centre.
Bus: International coaches connect Arad to Budapest, Vienna, and other central European cities. Domestic buses serve Timișoara, Oradea, and smaller towns in the region.
Car: Arad is on the A1 motorway connecting Bucharest and the Hungarian border at Nădlac-Csanádpalota. From Budapest, cross at Nădlac and drive about 50 km east.
Air: Arad International Airport (ARW) handles some charter and low-cost flights but is limited. Timișoara's airport (TSR), about 60 km to the south, has more connections.
