Things to Do

Arad's Austro-Hungarian centre is the main attraction: a grid of wide boulevards lined with Secessionist and Neoclassical buildings that give the city a distinctly Central European feel. The 18th-century fortress, the theatre, and the city's many handsome palaces reward an afternoon of walking. The city is unhurried and tourist-free enough that you can take your time.
