Poiana Brasov is a small ski resort spread across a meadow at 1,030 metres, twelve kilometres up the hill from the city. By Alpine standards it is modest — about 25 kilometres of pistes served by half a dozen lifts — but the skiing is cheap, the slopes are well-groomed, and the snow is normally reliable from mid-December to late March.
In summer the same area is a popular base for walking and mountain biking; chairlifts run up Postavarul (1,799m) for the panoramic view over Brasov below. Bus 20 from Livada Postei runs up every half hour and uses a special tariff (around 3.5 lei) — mention the destination when you buy the ticket.
