Strada Republicii runs north from Piata Sfatului — pedestrianised, paved in stone, lined with 19th-century facades in pinks, yellows and greens. By day it is shops and pavement cafes; by evening it fills with families, students and visitors strolling the length and back. It is one of the more enjoyable Romanian streets to people-watch.
The street has the highest concentration of ice cream, coffee, beer and tourist tat in the city. For something better, the side streets off it — Strada Michael Weiss and Strada Castelului — have the more interesting bars and restaurants.
