The historic centre is compact and walkable. From Piața Unirii nothing important is more than a 20-minute walk away. Pavements are good, traffic in the centre is light, and the river makes a useful orientation point.
For the outlying districts — Mănăștur, Mărăști, Grigorescu — buses and trolleybuses are frequent and cheap; buy tickets at kiosks or use the contactless option on board. Taxis are inexpensive by Western European standards. Uber and Bolt both operate. A bike-share scheme covers the central districts with stations along the river. The Hoia-Baciu Forest and the Ethnographic Museum's open-air section need either a bus or a taxi.
