A short walk north of Piața Unirii, the smaller Piața Muzeului is the medieval heart of Cluj — cobbled, ringed by old houses, and dominated by the Franciscan Church and the National History Museum. A 19th-century column with a statue of the Virgin stands in the middle.
This square is where the city's cafe culture is most concentrated. Terraces extend across the cobbles in summer, students fill the steps, and the whole area is closed to traffic. It's the easiest spot to base yourself for a drink between sightseeing.
