Azimov Mosque

The Azimov Mosque, in the southern part of the Old Tatar Quarter, is one of the city's most architecturally striking mosques — a small late-19th-century building with elaborate carved stone window frames, a stepped roof, and a tall green minaret. It was built in 1890 by the merchant Mustafa Azimov and survived the Soviet era as a warehouse.

Restoration in the 1990s returned it to use as a working mosque. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times. The location is quieter than the Märcani and Nurulla mosques further north and rewards a longer walk into the southern reaches of the Tatar Quarter.
